Using Google Jobs for your Search Building Your Future Now Google is already an essential component in any job seekers tool kit. It is easy to use and gives you the timely information you need. Recently Google has enriched their search palate by introducing Google Jobs. Its a great and easy-to-use to tool when youre on the job hunt. How do you access it? Simply access it by typing in Jobs in the Google search window on your phone. Secondly, a list of a few job posts comes up in the search results. Just typing in jobs will give you some positions in your area according the location your smart phone is set. Get specific If you want a more specific job search for a position and location you want simply type that in Google search. For exampleToronto Jobs Outside Sales. This will give you a more refined search. Also keep in mind this is Google so try to be as specific in your search query as possible. Click on Jobs at top of Blue Box If you want to get more options for a menu click on the Jobs word. You will be taken to a specific Google Job Search page where you can save and create job alerts. You can also modify and refine your search in this area by choosing: Category, Title location among other searches. Learn More Function Do you want to get more from Google Jobs? Scroll down in the blue jobs box and you will notice at the right hand bottom the words Learn More. Click that. It will bring you to a screen and give you some tips in using Google jobs. Below is the view of the Learn More Screen with more options to select in order to refine you job search. Also, notice the alert option at the top right corner; its a great tool to keep you in the loop on fresh postings right to your email inbox Jobs for Veterans This is a helpful section for those who will be or are military veterans. Google breaks down what to do if you are a veteran to link your skills to a job that is right for you. The menu below is what you will find displayed in the Learn More Screen. Feedback If you find Feedback beside the Learn More botton at the bottom right of the Google Job Blue Box. Tell Google what you think! The biggest reason Google gets so good is because they always have the end user in mind. Although this is a new project for Google with time and feedback it can definitively revival Indeed.com. Advance Your Personal Brand and Let Content Persuade - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Personal branders know objections and resistance are a part of the personal branding process and there are many great resources that detail strategies for handling objections. Many of these strategies focus on how to handle objections verbally in either face to face encounters or over the phone. There is much less thought leadership on how to handle objections or resistance with content to grow your personal brand, and this post will dive into a few ways you can do just that. As I have said many times before, personal branders need to see themselves in the business of creating content that sells and not just in the business of selling their stuff and ideas. Content that grows your brand This is especially true now because the ways we consume content are on the rise with technologies like wifi, smartphones, tablets, and social networking. Even email is getting more social as your status updates and profiles are being pulled into email clients. It is far more likely that you will be able to reach your prospect, customer, or niche on their mobile device and it is easier to constantly provide value with the technology at our finger tips. In her new book SNAP Selling, Jill Konrath points out that you need to become invaluable to your prospects, customers, and niche to break through the noise, get in the door and move the sales process forward. This same strategy holds true for personal branders, even though you may not be in the sales profession because everyone is selling something. Do you have your sales playbook? One of the best ways to do that is to create your sales playbook that can help you sell and overcome your most common objections. You know the most common things that keep you from getting in the door or getting what you desire. The first thing you need to have is a solid understanding of your most common objections and from there you can begin creating content or leveraging content that is compelling, persuasive, and valuable to your prospects, customers and niche. Those with the biggest advantage here are the personal branders that are consistently creating content and have built up a credible reputation. The great news for those with access to organized content is that we can leverage this content in our favor and use it to handle objections, lower resistance, and get further faster. Here is a strategy I have found very successful One of my major objections on the job is establishing a sense of urgency, and Im constantly addressing this issue throughout my sales process. Many times, despite my best efforts at identifying gaps in a prospects business and the consequences of those gaps, prospects decide to delay or start showing the tell tale signs of delaying. That is when I will call them and send an email that has a very specific purpose. If I get their voicemail, I have a scripted voicemail that I use too. The email I send has a screenshot of some very compelling data from the demo and a link to a blog article from our company blog that highlights the top reasons not to delay. I usually include a link to a very relevant video case study too. If anything is going to get the prospect off their behind, it is this strategy. Many times, shortly after I do this, I notice someone from the prospects organization has looked at my Linkedin profile, which helps me build even more credibility. The big takeaway here is that Im providing value during the objection handling process at the same time Im isolating and addressing the objection. The bigger takeaway is that Im leveraging valuable content to help me sell, and the prospect does not have to just take my word for it. This approach fosters a sense of trust, experience, and value that helps differentiate yourself from your competition and win more deals. It can also help you lower resistance and build your personal brand. You can take this one to the bank everyone is selling something. The Psychology Of Being An Investment Banker Some people do it because they think other people will think they’re cool. Sure, it’s second-handed, but there is a psychological aspect to it that many cannot refuse. It’s the feeling that you’re on top of the world. This is different from having passion for the industry (more on that later). It’s more like love of money and a strong desire for personal wealth the kind of wealth that can only be made in this business. The Money Let’s face it: you can make a lot of money in the investment banking business. There are some guys who will get out of bed at 6Am every weekday, and 5 on Saturday because they think it’s Friday, just to make money. A lot of people get into this business because the financial rewards mimic those of entrepreneurship, but with much less risk. Some people just love the fact that they can afford a mansion-sized house, a nice car, and private schooling for their kids. On the weekends, you get to mow the lawn in the morning and sit by the pool and relax with a beer in the afternoon. You get season tickets for your favorite sport as a company perk. Your fat salary and bonuses mean that your only real financial problems are figuring out where to stuff all of this cash for your future retirement. The Status The status symbol factor is hard to overlook. When you’re the model of financial success, others look up to you. Many bankers love knowing that their friends refer to them as “rich and fabulous” or a “financial whiz.” Friends and relatives will call you, asking you how to get a good deal on a mortgage, what to invest in for their retirement, how to buy gold, what new tech startup they should be looking at, and even what they should be tipping in restaurants. You are considered one of the smartest people they know. They love it, and so do you. And, it’s all “part of the job.” The Passion This is probably one of the most understated reasons for getting into finance: the pure joy of it all. Can people really love money so much that they are passionate about making it for the sake of it? Yes. For some investment bankers, they couldn’t care less how much they make. It’s not necessarily the personal wealth they’re after. They just want to make money. Each win, each completed deal, each signed contract, is another proof of their efficacy in the business. It’s a great feeling to help others make money, make money yourself, and make your firm money. And, for some people, that’s enough. If you live, breath, eat, and sleep numbers, then you’re going to have a great time in finance. If you view the trading floor as an adult playground, you’re going to have a great time in finance. And, if the sound of keyboards clicking, and the smell of money, puts a smile on your face, well you know the rest. Passion isn’t something most people learn. It’s something that’s felt.
